Retail and Commercial Design Services

High-end retail architecture—delivering designer-led spaces with planning, building control and fire compliance built in.

William Jones Architect (WJA) partners with international designers and project teams working across premium high-street retail brands. We translate brand vision into buildable, approvable and deliverable detail—so your concept lands on site exactly as intended, while meeting statutory Planning and Building Control requirements.

What we do

From feasibility through approvals and technical delivery, WJA provides a single architectural lead for high-end retail environments—flagships, refurbishments, and complex fit-outs—coordinating consultants, resolving technical risk early, and keeping programmes moving.

Services

  • Local Planning Applications
  • Building Control Applications
  • Higher-risk building applications (where applicable)
  • Fire consultant liaison
  • Construction and fit-out drawings
  • 3D visualisations
  • Coordination and management of all sub-consultant information

Planning, Building Control & higher-risk buildings

WJA is compliance-led without compromising design intent. For projects in England that fall under the Building Safety Regulator’s higher-risk building regime (for example, buildings that are at least 18 metres/7 storeys and contain 2 or more residential units, or are hospitals/care homes meeting the height threshold), we help teams assemble clear, coordinated information for building control approval and manage the architectural inputs required at each stage.

Consultant collaboration

We collaborate closely with RSK Consulting Ltd and other specialist disciplines to ensure fire, structural, MEP, access, and façade considerations are integrated early—reducing rework and supporting smoother approvals and delivery on site.

How we work

  1. Brief & brand intent — understand concept, programme, and operational requirements.
  2. Feasibility & risk — identify planning, building regulations, fire strategy and landlord constraints early.
  3. Approvals — coordinate and submit planning/building control information with clear compliance narratives.
  4. Technical delivery — produce coordinated fit-out packages and manage consultant inputs through to site.

Arts and Crafts

William’s primary influence in architecture is from English Architectural Arts and Crafts. He seeks to apply lessons learnt from these aesthetics and compositions in all his designs.

Architectural projects are costly and may be the most expensive project many families ever undertake. At WJA, we wish to assure our clients that we go above and beyond in pursuance of beauty, practicality and satisfaction.
